News Feeds We announced the birth of baby Joomla! just over six months ago. During that time baby J! has matured into a highly-acclaimed, award-winning CMS of choice. Not a bad effort for something so new. Most of us know Joomla's heritage and the massive contributions made by developers and community members to further our aims and ensure its future. For some time now we've been unable to accept donations to the Joomla! project — much to the frustration of many members of the community. We can't count the number of times people have wanted to make financial contributions and, we must be honest, the money has been needed. But we couldn't accept it. There's a simple reason for the delay, we wanted tick all the right boxes to ensure everything was done correctly. Thanks to the professional guidance of the Software Freedom Law Center (based in New York), we are now, through Open Source Matters (http://www.opensourcematters.org/), officially registered as a not-for-profit. Donations are always welcome ... and at the moment they will help in some specific areas. We have several expos coming up where Joomla! intends to participate. While Joomla! is looking for ways to raise income from other sources, such as tasteful advertising, we are still expecting to rely on community support through donations to keep this baby fed. We are pleased to announce we are now in a position to accept donations (content/view/689/79/) to help support our open source project. |

It's party time, folks! Today we proudly announce the launch of our Joomla! Extensions site (http://extensions.joomla.org/). With Joomla! arguably the world's most popular open-source CMS and subsequently the largest active 3PD community, we're introducing the Extensions Directory (http://extensions.joomla.org/) to make things more fun. Yes, we have listened to the community about how it can be difficult to find things on the Forge. That message came through loud and clear and a working group has been furiously working behind the scenes to make things user-friendly. What's this mean? Trying to find a particular component, module or bot (soon to be known as plugin when Joomla! 1.1 is released) on Extensions is a breeze. You can search by category, most popular, editor's picks, just as you can on high-end commercial software directories. Once you've found what you want to use, there's a more information and download links to the Forge where the developer's project sits. You will also be able to rate your choices, based on your experiences. |

Over the New Year we promoted our commitment to third party developers (3PDs), where we hinted at creating a cool hangout for all 3PDs to learn, exchange, mentor and explore their creative ideas. Well, today, as promised, we're delivering our Developer Network Portal. The Joomla!™ Developer Network Portal, is, we believe, a first in the Open Source world. This idea has been driven by both core development members and third party developers, said Joomla! project leader Andrew Eddie. It represents another milestone in the maturity of Joomla! and there is no doubt from the feedback we're receiving it's a benchmark worth having. Joomla! lead developer Johan Jansens said he wanted to see the portal become the hangout for developers to support each other and be free to explore the full power of Joomla! and its many innovations. This is particularly true of Joomla! 1.1. We've already been working with 3PDs to help them make their components work well and draw from the power of the new API. |

We are pleased to formally introduce Louis Landry, David Gal, Mateusz (Mat) Krzeszowiec, Richard (Ric) Allinson and Sam Moffatt to the Core Development Team. The work they have contributed to Joomla!™ over the past few months has created some amazing momentum within the project. The project lead developer, Johan Janssens, said fresh ideas and integration of new technologies into the core has created a great deal of opportunity and stability for the future of Joomla!. I'd like to personally congratulate all of the guys for their hard work, Johan said. Their contribution, encouragement and spirit of teamwork has taken us to heights with the upcoming Joomla! 1.1 that could not have happened so quickly without their combined intellectual muscle. |

| Well folks, we've had this under wraps somewhat but what better time to share some good news than at New Year. The concrete is setting on our Joomla!™ 1.1 codeset and it will be delivering many cool features, primarily designed to provide Third Party Developers (3PDs) with more power and ease of code integration. Yes, it's true. Joomla! 1.1 will provide an entry into a modern codeset allowing Object Orientated development, with inbuilt internationalisation (multi-lingual support), a refactored core and, FTP extension installation. Put simply, core restructuring and modernisation of code all built on a robust framework which allows the developer more power and flexibility with less effort. UTF-8 built in — Internationalisation (translation of the core system) allowing multi-lingual support Core Restructuring — modernisation of core, providing a more powerful, flexible framework FTP uploading of extensions (components, modules, plugins, templates), resolving file ownership and Safe Mode issues Database drivers — a project providing the ability for Joomla! to work with databases other than mySQL Hooks for officially supported components already in the core Plugin framework - a system to allow easy integration of external web applications |

| With a New Year around the corner, the Joomla!™ Team would like to wish the community the best. Thanks to those of you who've taken the time to write with your wishes for the year end. Our happy worker bees have been continuing development during the Festive Season and released 1.0.5 (content/view/638/74/) in time for Christmas (content/view/638/74/). We've got some more good news coming in the New Year. In fact, we've already hinted a couple of times about raising the bar in terms of power and standards for third party developers. We've also got some news about a forthcoming release with both feature and functionality improvements. 2006 will see us build on new technologies enhanced by a more robust, standardised, modern codeset. What are we saying here? Well I guess you'll need to wait to see the announcement on January 1st! Until then, enjoy your New Year celebrations and if you're not partying too hard drop by for a Joomla!™ Powered 2006. Joomla (http://technorati.com/tag/Joomla) |

| Gallery 1.5.2-pl2 is now available for download. This release fixes several things:
- A very major data loss issue with the zip download component. If a zip file is not successfully created, Gallery 1.5.2 and Gallery 1.5.2-pl1 will try and delete many more files than they should.
- A very minor security problem where a user with write access to a server could create a specially formatted file, coerce someone with owner privileges in the Gallery to click on a specially formatted link, which could modify stored album data and possibly lead to local code execution. We thank Tom Saville (seregon at bughunter dot net) and his team from Digital Armaments for reporting this to us and giving us time to get a patch out.
- Several other minor bugs.
We strongly recommend all Gallery 1.5.2 users upgrade immediately to 1.5.2-pl2 to avoid losing data on your webserver! Download Gallery 1.5.2-pl2 from the Gallery Download Page.
